My Experience Watching Star Wars: The Force Awakens

First of all, NO SPOILERS. I will not ruin the movie for anyone that has yet to watch it. With that said, everyone that knows me is well aware that I am a big fan of anything science fiction. However, I never got exposed to Star Wars enough to know the story line or even become a fan. Pretty much all my exposure to star wars was the countless movie quotes like "I am your farther.." and "May the Force be with you" and the "Skywalker" "Yoda" "Jedi" names that always ring a bill despite never watching a single movie. In fact, my entire experience watching the latest star wars movie was sort like what a mother experiences when she accompanies her 11 year old kid to a comic con expo. Being fully aware of all the pop culture references and fans but at the same time totally clueless.

Fans Go Crazy at Bow Tie Cinemas

I went to see the movie with my partner at the Bow Tie Cinemas theater in West Hartford, CT. Shortly after everyone was seated waiting for the movie to start (prior to the trailers) a staff member announced they were having difficulties with the projector and that they were working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. As soon as she uttered the words "difficulties with projector" almost everyone started whispering and talking to each other. A couple of guys in the back were a bit rude but I think overall everyone handled it ok. Perhaps what made the situation even more awkward was that she had to announce it twice, on each side of the theater to ensure everyone heard and you could see the frustration on her face. Luckily for us, they were able to fix the projector 10 minutes after. As a plus, we were all given re-admission tickets at the end of the movie.

The beginning of the movie was very engaging, it gave context to the viewers even to those who never watched the previous movies such as myself. The graphics were excellent, very realistic and all the characters played their roles flawlessly. The movie was not all war and action, it had multiple funny scenes that everyone, including me, had a great laugh. Nevertheless, there were many other parts were I was completely lost for not knowing the entire story line. During these parts, I sort of felt left out from the "star wars culture" as everyone seemed to know exactly what was going on. I would recommend that if you are going to watch this movie, to at least read a little bit of the story line or if you have time, watch all previous 6 movies :) There is one negative thing I have to say about the movie. (Not sure if this classifies as a spoiler but here is the warning) The actor that played the evil lord seemed very childish and for some reason, I feel the actor himself didn't fully fit the role because of his physical appearance. Feel free to disagree with me in the comments. But overall, great movie and I can't wait for the next one. I will be watching the other previous 6 movies to get the full context and perhaps even become a fan :)
